Culture of the Information Age (1)

The luggage is standing ready in the hall. I still have to get mentally ready for the trip to Hungary. I have been invited to the conference Culture of the Information Age at the Kodolányi János University College at Siófok. From Google Earth I learned that this college is at the Balaton Lake, outside Budapest.

It will be my second time in Hungary. In 2000 I was in Budapest for a weekend workshop. It was a nice stay and I had some time to look around the city. I went to the top of Pest with the beautiful church and I saw the parliament buildings along the Danube. Later in the week I will go to Budapest and stay there till Sunday morning, when I will return home.

The conference is going to be interesting. It is about the culture of the information age. So there are presentations about contemporary art, mass media, preservation of video art and narrowing the gap between private and professional publishing. I have been asked to give a presentation about blogging as a journalistic tool. The lecture will give me plenty of opportunity to go from culture in the information age to journalism and from there to blogging.

I will meet there Györgyi Rétfalvi, who lectures at the university. I will also meet my old friend Milverton Wallace, whom I known a long time for the Netmedia Awards and later on the annual conferences on the Media and the Internet, Europe's premier Internet conference for journalists and media managers (see http://www.net-media.co.uk/).
