The Dutch collecting society NORMA, protecting the neighbouring rights of actors and musicians, has started a court case against five cable companies, being UPC, Essent Kabelcom, Casema, Multikabel and Delta Kabelcomfort. NORMA takes care of the collective rights of performers in the field of television distribution through cable and satellite and distribution of digital television.
The cable companies have infringed on the neighbouring rights of performers distributing radio and television programs without permission. Negotiations between NORMA and the Dutch cable association VECAI did not force an agreement. By going to court, NORMA wants to force an agreement.
With the court case the collecting society also wants to warn operators of ADSL+ digital television channels such as KPN and TELE2.
